Colwyn Bay...Residents Grows Increasingly Concerned About The State Of The Imperial Hotel

The Grade II listed building has planning for conversion and restoration of the lower floors for retail, yet witnesses saw slates being taken off the roof by workmen last week and not for repair (allegedly!)

The owners are currently using it as a dumping ground for their other businesses, with rubble and building items.

It is rumored that the council is looking at compulsory purchase, does anyone know if this is true?

Here is the article from Colwyn Bay Notice Board on Facebook.

I think we can all agree that the Imperial looks like a blight on our town. Not only that, but now with all the rubbish stored inside it, it's an environmental health risk, and a huge fire risk.

This building needs to be renovated, or if the landlord is unwilling to, repossessed for the sake of the town.

Email our local Senedd member about this issue to put pressure on authorities to find a solution. Darren.Millar@senedd.wales

There are so many towns across the UK that think they are going downhill. This is due to greedy and absent landlords who hold on to properties they cannot or will not maintain.

An example letter for you to remix/reuse to send to MS Millar:

Dear Ms Millar,
I am writing as a resident of Colwyn Bay concerned about the state of our high street. More specifically, the Imperial Hotel building at the bottom of Station Road.
This is the first building visitors from the train station see, and it gives a terrible impression of the town. The building has been left to go to ruin, and currently has rubbish stored inside of it which, in the amount visible, looks to be an environmental health risk and also a fire risk that could affect neighboring buildings.
I am asking you to find a solution to this problem building - it needs either to be renovated by the landlord or, if they are unwilling to renovate it, to be repossessed by an authority that is able to do so.
I appreciate this is a complex issue - however, it is very important that we try to find a solution to this eyesore, especially since so much good work has been done to the seafront over the past few years.
Kind regards
