North Wales ...Yr Wyddfa graffiti generates angry response online

Yr Wyddfa, formerly Snowdon is the joke of North Wales, a bit like Rhyl and Wrexham, full of litter human and dog waste, people falling off the mountain or having to be rescued in flip, flops, vandalism, and graffiti, as well as Queues, what an embarrassment!

An image of graffiti near the summit of Wales's highest mountain has triggered an angry backlash on social media after it was posted on Twitter yesterday. A standing stone with 'Copa/Summit' inscribed on it has been daubed with several names and slogans in what appears to be a permanent marker pen.

The stone is there to guide walkers in the right direction and is near to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) at the top of the Llanberis path. This isn't the first occasion that some walkers have been misbehaving near the top of the 1,085-metre peak.

Last year we revealed that a mountain guide had discovered human excrement on the same path. Yr Wyddfa is believed to be the UK's busiest mountain, with around half a million walkers reaching the summit each year.

The graffiti picture was taken by a Twitter user who posted the image on his personal account. He said: "People have now put graffiti on the Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon summit stone! Why do people destroy everything?"

There was an angry reaction to the post. Steve said: "It's such a shame, I suspect it's more likely to be from those whose sole purpose is to say 'I've been to the summit' to their friends on SM to 'look good' as opposed to those who like to get out in and appreciate the countryside. Whoever it is, it's pathetic and irresponsible."

Nigel Evans said: "I just don't understand what goes through some people's minds. To do this in such a beautiful area is genuinely mind-boggling."
