Conwy, North Wales...Proposed Campervan Stopover Site Blocked by Planners Due To Flood Risk!

This really is insane, if it floods they move, but if they have allowed the business there and even a housing estate lower down and nearer the river how can they deny this?

And with all of the problems with Camper Vans parking on private land this would have been a wise move for Landowners, The Garage, and the Van Owners!

A stopover campervan site in a North Wales village has been blocked by planners. Riverside Motors in Glan Conwy wanted to place 20 motorhomes on its sales area at its site next to the A470 and Afon Conwy - later revising this to 12 spaces.

They hoped to help meet the demand for short stay places for campervan owners who wanted to tour the region. The owner said it could run alongside a smaller garage operation.

But both the Glan Conwy Community Council and the economic development department at Conwy Borough County Council said the site is not suitable.

There were worries over potential noise and litter pollution, flood risk, and traffic issues from vehicles entering and exiting the site.

The owners wrote to planners to answer some of the concerns. They had said the site would bring economic benefits to the village by supporting the pub and other facilities.

But planning officers have now formally rejected the plans. They gave a number of reasons, these include:

  • Flood risk
  • Failure to address highways concerns
  • Proximity to local homes

Officers said: "Although the development would create the parking/tourism/holiday accommodation in the form of a caravan site, and may generate some minor, if any benefit, to the local economy or employment, it is not considered that such benefits would outweigh the harm the development would cause to flood risk. The incompliance with the tourism policy and the lack of highway and site management details adds to the refusal decision."
