North Wales...Pollution warnings issued for Welsh beaches as people are warned to stay out of the water!

Are people realistically going to stay out of the water at this time of year? There was someone commenting online who swims every morning and they were saying that they did not care!

Also, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay sea water is filthy, the beaches look nice but the water is brown!

A public health warning has been issued for pollution at a number of popular Welsh beaches, including one in Gwynedd. Alerts have been put in place at a total of six beaches across Wales.

They include Aberdyfi in Gwynedd and Aberystwyth on the west coast, while the other four are further south at Traeth Gwyn in New Quay, Llangrannog, Poppit Sands Beach, and Newport Beach. As a result, Safer Seas & Rivers Service have advised members of the public to avoid swimming in the areas affected.

Warnings on the service's website said: "Aberdyfi Pollution Risk Warning: Bathing not advised today due to the likelihood of reduced water quality. Aberdyfi is a sandy beach stretching over three miles located at the mouth of the River Dyfi.

"A harbor can be found to the east of the beach, with sand dunes to the northwest. Sailing and windsurfing are popular but swimmers should be aware of strong currents here due to the Dyfi estuary outflow. There is a Combined Sewage Overflow in the town center, with an emergency overflow into the Dyfi Estuary, close to the jetty."

The warning for Aberystwyth says: "Bathing not advised today due to the likelihood of reduced water quality. A sheltered, sloping sand and shingle beach in the middle of Cardigan Bay. The beach is 350m wide, found between the castle and harbor breakwater. The beach is backed by the town."

The reason for the pollution is unknown, but it follows heavy rainfall. Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water have been approached for a comment.

Safer Seas & Rivers Service looks at water quality at over 400 locations around UK rivers and coastlines. You can see its warnings on the map here.
