Hotels are falling like dominoes in Llandudno at the moment. There are at least four up for sale!
So at least this will be used for a useful purpose.
The worry is when it alters this use if it will then go in for flats or demolition,
A seafront hotel in Llandudno is a temporary home for dozens of Ukrainian refugees fleeing war. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has torn up lives across the country - with millions of people having to flee their homes.
Thousands of the refugees have come to Wales - with the Welsh Government a 'super-sponsor' of 3,000 people escaping the conflict. Many others have been sponsored by people living in Wales.
It has now been confirmed that an agreement has been made between the Government and the owners of the County Hotel in Llandudno to take in some of those displaced people. The hotel is part of the Coast and Country collection with Bespoke Hotels and was reopened last year after previous operator Specialist Leisure Group went into administration in 2020.
The seafront site has dedicated 30 rooms for refugees for the next three months. It will provide vital respite to those in need of accommodation.
Mark McNicol, general manager of the County Hotel, said: “The County hotel has an agreement in place to host Ukrainian refugees for the next three months, as part of a Welsh Government scheme. This is seeing people fast-tracked through the system, and we’ll be playing our part in that by providing accommodation for them when they arrive.
"We’ve all seen the terrible situation in Ukraine, and we were keen to do our bit and help in some way – so we jumped at the chance to host, which sees us dedicating 30 rooms for the purpose. Those coming to stay with us have all been through an extremely difficult time, and we’ll be doing our utmost to provide them with a positive experience during their time at the County. We look forward to welcoming our Ukrainian guests in the coming days and weeks.”
