Colwyn Bay...Conwy Council to introduce car park charges at The Skip ( Porth Eirias)

I do actually agree with this. At night there are gangs of Yobs congregating in the car park, and then or both at the same time Camper Vans.

So something needs to be done to stop all overnight parking in Conwy, with it illegal to overnight park, unless you get a ticket or the land owner's permission.

They also need some wardens patrolling at night and clamping along with fines if they do not pay or park illegally.

All the money should go (excluding costs and employment) to local causes or at the very least a percentage.

Car park charges are set to be introduced at the Porth Eirias site on Colwyn Bay promenade. Charges have already been introduced on most of the prom in recent years but the car park by the Bryn Williams restaurant had remained free.

But now Conwy County Borough Council has appointed Creative Car Park Ltd to manage the customer parking. They said it was being put in place to help users of the restaurant, retail offer, and watersports activities at Porth Eirias access parking spaces at the building’s car park.

It is also designed to address issues of overnight parking at the site following feedback from residents. Over the next couple of weeks, Creative Car Park will be completing the necessary arrangements to enforce parking rules at the site.

This will include erecting signage, installing a payment kiosk, and an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. The scheme is expected to be operational from mid-August.

A 20-minute grace period for parking will enable Porth Eirias customers to make quick visits to the building to pick up tickets, drop off a bike at Evolution Bikes service center, pick up some essential watersports equipment or grab a quick coffee at the cafe, and charges will be introduced for parking for longer periods.

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Cabinet Member for Economy and Culture, said: “Having car park management in place will help those users of the facilities gain better access to parking on site and help support the businesses on site who rely on customers’ trade.”

Charges will be:

1 hour £1.50

2 hours £3.00

3 hours £ 4.50

Over 3 hours £10.00
