Abergele...Drunk man threatened to kill mother in own home!

More interesting Characters from Abergele! And yet again Mental Health and Anxiety are the get-off-jail card that continually gets played in court! If someone has capacity then there can be no excuse, he chose to drink, so he made that decision, he should have been jailed for at least five years.

A MAN from Abergele who made threats to kill his mother while drunk in her home has been spared jail.

Antony Holmes, 35, of Lon Derw, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, at Mold Crown Court today (August 25).

He was guilty of making threats to kill, affray, assault by beating, and criminal damage.

Prosecuting, Elen Owen told the court that, on April 12, Holmes, having drank an entire bottle of vodka, threatened to kill his mother with an eight-inch knife he was carrying in her home.

A large number of police officers attended his mother’s address, who themselves were also threatened by Holmes upon their arrival.

Holmes, whose mother attended today’s sentencing, later complied with officers and was arrested.

He had spent the last four-and-a-months since his arrest remanded in custody.

Defending Holmes, who received his first conviction since 2008, Ryan Rothwell said his long-standing mental health problems, including anxiety, were a contributory factor in his behavior.

Sentencing, Judge Rowlands told Holmes he had “effectively self-medicated with drink and drugs”.

Judge Rowlands added: “Your mother, understandably, stands by you.

“She takes the view that you’ve been badly let down in the past; I don’t know whether that’s right or not.”

Holmes was also handed a mental health treatment requirement by Judge Rowlands for 18 months.

This will see him be supervised by the Nant-y-Glyn Community Mental Health Team in Colwyn Bay.

He will complete 35 days’ rehabilitation activity requirements, and be subject to a six-month exclusion requirement.

This will be electronically monitored and will prohibit him from going near his mother’s address.

Holmes will pay a statutory surcharge of £187.
