This is not good news, Wales & West hate conversion, they are currently planning on destroying the old convent in Llandudno!
They appear to care about nothing regarding local history, conversion, or public opinion, yet WAG fund them which is our money! Watch this space.
THE former Territorial Army (TA) site in Prestatyn is to be bought by a housing association.
Wales & West Housing Association has been revealed as the Marine Road property’s prospective new owners, courtesy of Land Registry documents.
Last November, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the site had been sold, subject to contract, but did not disclose who the buyer is.
But the Journal can reveal that, on March 27, Wales & West lodged a search on Land Registry for the old TA site, in order to “protect a pending purchase”.
The value of the sale is not known, though the property was placed on the market with a guide price of £1.5million.
The Army Reserve Centre was sold to the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Wales in November 2016.
It followed a government decision to merge the 101 Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers with the 105 battalion, based in Bristol.
The Ministry of Defence later placed it on the market with GVA, which was later taken over by Avison Young.
Wales & West manages more than 12,400 homes across 13 local authority areas in Wales, including in excess of 3,000 for older people.
It already has a presence in Prestatyn with its Nant-Y-Môr site, also on Marine Road, comprising 59 apartments for those aged 60 or older and with a care and support need.
Supermarket chain Aldi had considered opening a new store at the old TA site, but after “extensive work” exploring its potential redevelopment, it decided in 2022 not to pursue this.
Avison Young said of the site: “The subject site is occupied as a training and defence facility and comprises a total of approximately 1.9 acres (0.80 hectares).
“The accommodation on-site is constructed of brick elevations under a part-pitched, part-flat roof.
“The buildings are of three storeys to the front and single rear build, with the front subdivided into offices, mess barracks and ancillary space, with the rear providing open warehouse/stores facility.
“To the rear section of the site is a substantial yard area with rear grassland.
“Gated vehicular access to the facility is provided off Marine Road, with pedestrian access provided at the junction.”
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "The former TA Centre in Marine Road was declared surplus to Ministry of Defence requirements, and is being sold in accordance with usual departmental process."
Wales & West Housing Association declined to comment when contacted by the Journal.
