Llandudno...‘Phoney’ admiral with fake medals arrested after blagging his way into Remembrance event

Its a very sad thing for someone to do, maybe he meant well but if he was not entitled to the Uniforms and Medals, that was a crime. But what would make someone go to such trouble?

There clearly is more to this story.

A SUSPECTED “Walter Mitty” has sparked uproar among veterans after posing as an admiral with a chest full of bogus medals on Remembrance Sunday.

He blagged his way into a wreath laying ceremony before saluting the war memorial in Llandudno, North Wales.

The imposter was dressed in a Rear Admiral’s uniform with a dozen gongs pinned to his chest.

The medals included a Distinguished Service Order – which is normally won by infantry officers – and the Queen’s Voluntary Reserves Medal, which is exclusively for military reservists.

The Walter Mitty Hunters Club, an online group which exposes cases of “stolen valour”, said records shows no one had ever been won both.

They described the man as an “absolute belter” and said: “This might be the highest ranking Walt attempt ever”.

The council confirmed the imposter was not on their official guest list.

When he was challenged by the parade marshal he claimed to be representing the Lord Lieutenant of Clywd.

However Lord Lieutenant Harry Fethersonhaugh told The Sun: “I have never seen him before in my life.”

Navy source said they were “99.9 per cent certain” the individual was a fraud.

They said: “It’s the medals that’ll get him.”

A Llandudno council spokesperson said: “We are aware that a gentleman turned up to our Remembrance Sunday event.

“We were not notified of his attendance in advance.

“He was approached by the parade marshal and said he was representing the Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd.”

They added: “He laid his wreath respectively and behaved before leaving.

“We understand military organisations are looking into this.

“We would not wish it to overshadow an excellent parade and remembrance service.”

It comes days after Northamptonshire’s former top cop Nick Adderley appeared in court accused of lying about his Royal Navy service.

A Sun investigation found the sacked Chief Constable wore a Falklands War medal despite being a child at the time of the conflict.
