Very sad news indeed, a lovely little pub that has been the heart of the community.
The rates and taxes on pubs which are part of our culture is crippling the industry,
The government just does not sem to care.
We once had the stunning Rhos Abbey which was a lovely hotel and pub but depite huge objections was torn down for the carbuncle block of flats that now stands in its place.
There is very little left in Rhos on Sea, it has either been demolished or closed.
I wonder what will happen to the Cayley?
A COMPANY that operated a pub on Rhos-on-Sea seafront has gone into liquidation with its owner saying it has been "difficult" since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Black Fox Leisure Ltd, registered at the Cayley Arms on the promenade, is understood to have operated the day-to-day and trading operations of the Cayley Arms for several years under a leasehold.
But on October 8, liquidators were appointed to wind up the business after a meeting of creditors took place last month.
According to Companies House, Black Fox Leisure owed over £215,000, including more than £190,000 to HMRC and over £5,000 to Michael Dunn, the company's director and former landlord of the Cayley Arms.
It is understood that Black Fox ran the site until entering liquidation.
Michael Royce of M. R. Insolvency was appointed liquidator.
The Cayley Arms remains open
and trading on Rhos Promenade.
Mr Dunn told the Pioneer that the company's financial difficulties and liquidation were "typical of the industry at the moment"
He said: "It's not only hospitality, but look how many companies are going through the same thing. Covid was difficult enough and then the recovery from COVID was even more difficult.
"It took time for businesses to start generating profit again and then we get slapped with the war between Russia and Ukraine, our utilities go through the roof, then we have the cost of living crisis.
"All of the prices went up on everything and we weren't able to raise our costs because we weren't competitive.
"It's been a difficult five or six years. Someone's got to do something, this can't continue. I'm not going to be the only one suffering from this.
"This is going to be a continuous thing for many other people unless the government do some changes. They put massive increases on everything and not given any tax breaks. They just give nothing.
"I couldn't raise a pint by 10 pence to compensate for the increase because when everything goes up, like the diesel cost, the breweries put up the cost of the product, like the kegs."
