Llandudno...Man assaulted woman and abused guard while on train

Sadly this seems to be happening a lot in this area and down to Bangor. My husband and I often travel by train now we have our passes and are retired, but police walking up and down trains and waiting as passengers alight to arrest someone is now commonplace.

Very sad indeed, and not nice for rail staff or passengers either.

A man has been sentenced after assaulting a woman and verbally abusing a railway worker on a Llandudno train last year. Jamie Nathan Davies, 42, of Trafalgar Road, Wirral, was sentenced at Llandudno Magistrates Court last week.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months, with 35 days rehabilitation activity required, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge. The incident happened on the evening of Friday, July 29, 2022, on a Llandudno to Llandudno Junction service.

A passenger alerted the train guard to a commotion in another part of the train. The guard approached Davies who then became verbally aggressive.

On arrival at Llandudno Junction, Davies was asked to leave the station and he once again became verbally aggressive to staff. British Transport Police were called by the staff, and once at the station officers carried out an investigation to find out the cause of the commotion that had occurred on the train.

Officers then viewed the onboard CCTV and saw that Davies had assaulted a woman. PC Hayley Harder said: “Violence again women, or anyone for that matter, will not be tolerated and we will always take action.

“On this occasion, thanks to CCTV we were able to establish that Davies assaulted a woman which resulted in her being injured. I would also like to thank the Transport for Wales staff during this incident who acted swiftly and decisively for the welfare of the woman involved.”

Leyton Powell, Transport for Wales’ safety, sustainability, and risk director added: “The majority of our customers appreciate our staff, and interactions are positive. We don't like taking these actions.

"However, when it comes to the safety, security, and welfare of our customers and colleagues, we adopt a strict, zero tolerance to assaults and anti-social behavior. With CCTV recording onboard our trains, people who commit offenses of this kind on our trains can expect to be prosecuted, and we always work with the British Transport Police to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”
