Three years is shockingly low, he set fire to a block of flats with people inside and could have killed someone!
He clearly has capacity or he would not have stood trial, so he should have gone to prison for far longer!
A MAN who started a fire at the block of flats in Rhyl where he was living at the time, before later carrying a kitchen knife in Llandudno, has been jailed.
Tristan Warren, 25, of Station Road, Llanrwst, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday (July 20).
He had previously pleaded guilty to charges of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing said on April 12, 2025, Warren was living in a block of flats on Brighton Road, Rhyl, where all flats were occupied.
At about 6pm that day, he started a fire at the block of flats, which caused “thick black smoke” to begin “pouring out of the building”.
A witness said they were “shocked” at the speed at which the fire grew.
Firefighters attended quickly, and other residents had to wait for four hours to find out what had happened, before being told they could not go back home that night.
More than £26,000 of damage was caused by the fire, while refurbishments took five months to complete.
Warren was arrested two days later, and gave a “no comment” police interview.
Another resident said in a statement that he has been “on edge” since this incident, and that he panics whenever he hears the smoke alarm sound.
Then, on May 28, 2025, Warren was seen carrying a kitchen knife in Llandudno, shouting at a man who held a hammer in his hand.
Footage played in court of the incident, taken by somebody who was filming it while hiding behind a vehicle, showed Warren repeatedly shouting: “F*** off.”
Representing Warren, who had seven previous convictions for 14 offences, Gareth Bellis asked the court to acknowledge his guilty pleas, and his “very severe” mental health issues.
The offences occurred at a time of “severe psychiatric crisis,” Mr Bellis said.
He added: “At time of the offences, he was hearing voices in his head, saying he was worthless and that nobody cared about him.”
Warren is now a “very different man,” and is now taking medication which he “remains committed to taking,” Mr Bellis added.
Sentencing, Judge Simon Mills told Warren: “Fire, particularly in a block of flats, is a very grave offence.
“Your neighbours had done nothing at all to harm you, or to cause you any problems at all.
"It’s clear that very substantial damage was done to the premises.”
He added that the Llandudno incident was also “very dangerous,” and that someone “could have been very seriously injured” as a result.
