Llandudno...Man left with fractured skull and permanent brain injuries after attack in town!

Something seriously wrong with some people, who does this over a girl? A sad loser that is who, and to think he will serve such a short time in prison for causing someone brain damage! Shocking

A man was knocked out and suffered bleeds on the brain after being punched in a dispute over a woman. Grant Williams found the woman distressed and attacked her boyfriend.

But the boyfriend fell to the ground and suffered a seizure after the attack in Llandudno. Williams, 27, rode off on his bike but returned within a minute to help bystanders give first aid.

The victim James Markl was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd but his condition was so serious with a fractured skull and other injuries that he was transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. He spent 10 days in that hospital and now lives with permanent brain injuries.

Today a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court jailed Williams, of Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay, for 21 months. The defendant, who works in Taiwan and earns £12,000 a month, is genuinely sorry but the judge said the case was so serious the sentence could not be suspended.

Prosecutor William Griffin said James Markl and his then girlfriend Haf Williams had had an argument in Llandudno. She left him to get the bus home but had a medical condition and was sitting on the ground at one point, it was said.

Williams and his brother cycled past, said the prosecutor. He asked Ms Williams if someone had hit her and she said "no", but Williams didn't hear the answer, the court heard.

Williams then approached Mr Markl near a bridge. They "squared up" to each other and Williams punched Mr Markl in the face.

Mr Markl fell to the ground and Williams and his brother rode away. But Williams came back about 40 seconds later to help bystanders give Mr Markl first aid.

Mr Markl began having a fit and eventually a passerby took him to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. He couldn't walk properly and vomited on the way. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred from the hospital in Bodelwyddan to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

He had suffered a fractured skull and several brain bleeds and spent ten days in the Stoke unit. In a statement Mr Markl said he has no memory of the incident or what his attacker looks like and is afraid in case he meets him.

He has also been diagnosed with Bell's palsy which causes a weakness to one side of the face.

When police arrived at the scene Williams told an officer he had "jabbed" his victim while on his bike and he was arrested shortly afterward. Elen Owen, defending, said her client had returned within a minute to help.

The young woman had been "distressed" on the floor and the woman thinks Williams may not have heard her when she said she hadn't been assaulted. Not a day goes by when he doesn't "beat himself up" over what happened, added Ms Owen.

Ms Owen said father-of-two Williams, who grew up in and out of care, has an excellent work ethic and is employed in Taiwan earning £12,000 a month. If jailed he would lose his job.

But the judge His Honour Niclas Parry told Williams he had caused appalling, life-changing injuries. He sent him to prison and imposed a restraining order prohibiting Williams from approaching his victim directly or indirectly or contacting him on social media.
