A dad choked a neighbor after he "lost complete control" when he found out his girlfriend had sex with his son. Michael Space attacked Charlotte Jenkins who intervened when the 58-year-old, of Ewloe Drive, Llandudno, had been arguing with his girlfriend.

Prosecutor Ryan Rothwell told Mold Crown Court the victim Ms Jenkins was awoken in her flat by a female friend and told something was happening at a flat across the corridor last October 9. The two women went out to it and saw Space "irate" and his girlfriend "upset".

Space ended up assaulting Ms Jenkins by pushing her with both hands against a wardrobe. Space's son arrived at the flat and he and his dad had a "physical altercation", the court heard.

Ms Jenkins got Space Senior out of the flat, the court heard. It emerged that the son and his dad's girlfriend had been sleeping together, the court heard.

Space, the prosecutor said, put his arm around Ms Jenkins' neck and strangled her for "20 or 30 seconds". She finally managed to slap him off but her vision was "blurry and fuzzy".

Space then struck Ms Jenkins' left cheek, Mr Rothwell said. Police were called and Space was arrested.

Space told officers "his son and girlfriend had been having sex unbeknownst to him" and denied the offenses, said Mr Rothwell. Simon Rogers, defending, said his client had been "devastated" by the revelation and "lost complete control".

But he bitterly regrets his behavior and is deeply distressed about what he did to Ms Jenkins. Mercifully the injuries were "relatively minor", said defence counsel.

His relationship with his girlfriend had been "volatile" but is now over. He has issues with alcohol which has "consumed him".

Space pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation. But a judge decided he could be rehabilitated and suspended his 16-month sentence for two years.

Imposing the suspended sentence, the judge His Honour Timothy Petts also ordered Space to wear an electronic tag during a four-month curfew from 7pm until 7am. He must do a six-month alcohol treatment and build better relationships programmes and attend 15 days of rehabilitation activity.

He also admitted assault and was given a suspended, ten-week sentence to run concurrently to the sentence for intentional strangulation.
