Colwyn Bay...Residents Concerned Over Potential Felling Of Landmark Willow Tree As Council Paint Red Red Dot On Bark!

There has been a number of concerns raised over what this red mark on the tree means, and if it is going to be cut down. There are a few dead trees in the bark but non of them have this red mark. It is a lovely tree and should not be cut down, I will ring the council tomorrow to see if I can get any sense out of them! and now an update from Friends Of Eirias Park!
Earlier today it was reported that the iconic Willow Tree that has stood by Eirias Lake for the past 60 years had been painted with a red dot which usually means the tree had become diseased and would need to be felled..... Our Chair Cllr Chris Hughes has been in contact with both ERF and Leisure services to find out what is going on and both departments have stated they have not marked the tree. The tree inspector has visited the tree today and has reported that apart from a small amount of storm damage which will need to be addressed, that the Willow is in perfect health..... The type of paint used to mark the tree appears to be a Gloss house paint which is not the type of paint the council would use to mark such trees. It therefore seems that the markings have be done maliciously...... We are enormously grateful to the vigilant residents who bought this to our attention.
