Llandudno meeting discusses antisocial behaviour concerns in the town!

This has been happening for years, so why are concerns only now being raised?

A PUBLIC meeting was held in Llandudno to discuss “genuine concerns” regarding antisocial behaviour in the town.

Held at the Emmanuel Christian Centre, on Lloyd Street, on Thursday evening (October 15), the meeting allowed residents the opportunity to raise issues affecting Llandudno’s town centre, particularly on Lloyd Street and Madoc Street, as well as Brookes Street and Caroline Road.

It followed police issuing a dispersal order in a large area of Llandudno’s town centre in June, while concerns have also been raised about antisocial behaviour at a house in multiple occupation on Caroline Road.

In July, police seized several vehicles on Llandudno's West Shore in relation to incidents of antisocial behaviour.

Thursday's meeting was chaired by Cllr Harry Saville, who represents the Gogarth Mostyn ward on Conwy County Borough Council, while the police and crime commissioner for North Wales, Andy Dunbobbin, was also in attendance.

Mr Dunbobbin said: “I want to thank everyone who took the time to attend and speak so openly about their experiences at the meeting regarding antisocial behaviour in the centre of Llandudno.

“The concerns raised by residents are genuine, and I fully understand the frustration felt by people who want to feel safe when living, working or visiting Llandudno town centre, and especially the areas of Madoc Street, Lloyd Street, Caroline Road and Brookes Street.

“Nobody should have to accept persistent antisocial behaviour or criminality. Residents deserve to see positive change, and I am determined to work with partners to ensure that happens.

“There are sometimes no quick fixes to issues like this, but there is a clear determination from all those around the table to tackle them.

“I will continue to work closely with local councillors, North Wales Police, Conwy County Borough Council, housing providers, businesses and community groups to identify practical solutions and ensure that resources are focused where they can make the biggest difference.

“The voices of local people must remain at the heart of this work. Communities know their neighbourhoods best, and by listening to residents and acting together, we have the best chance of delivering lasting improvements.

“I am committed to playing my part in that partnership approach, and will continue pressing for effective action that makes Llandudno town centre a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.”

Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Bangor Conwy Môn, added: "Reports of antisocial behaviour in our area is deeply concerning. This leaves residents and business owners alike feeling unsafe, and it cannot be allowed to continue.

"I will continue to raise these incidents with North Wales Police and call for urgent action to tackle this issue. There must be greater consequences for those engaging in this behaviour, and public safety should always be paramount.

"I urge anyone experiencing or witnessing antisocial behaviour to report it to the police, either by calling 101 or through their online reporting portal."
