Conwy County Schools Tops The Poll of Incidents involving Children with knives!

A shame on the whole county, but what is going to be done about it? Someone being bullied, you can understand for protection, but what other person or child would need to carry a knife! Even the bullied person should not carry a weapon. Very worrying for teachers and parents. CHILDREN as young as 10 have been caught with offensive weapons in North Wales schools, figures show.

Freedom of Information data released by North Wales Police reveals that 46 reports of children under 18 were found in possession of offensive weapons at schools over the last three years.

Items seized by the police during the incidents included Stanley and pen knives.

Of the incidents recorded by the police, the county with the highest number of incidents was Conwy with 14.

Next came Anglesey with 9 and Gwynedd with 8.

Meanwhile, Denbighshire and Flintshire both had 4, and there were 6 in Wrexham.

Over three quarters of the incidents involved children aged 13 or under - the youngest being 10. Of the 35 of 46 recorded incidents which had a recorded outcome, three resulted in cautions, and one in a formal charge/summons to attend court.

Four incidents resulted in 'Community resolution /Youth Restorative Disposal'. A Youth Restorative Disposal (YRD) is an informal way for police to hold young people (ages 10-18) accountable for minor offenses by focusing on addressing the harm caused, providing support, and preventing future crime, rather than resorting to formal court proceedings.

It typically involves the young person admitting guilt and taking practical steps, such as an apology or making reparations, often in conjunction with a Youth Offending Team (YOT).

'Diversionary/Educational' also accounted for two of the incidents. Diversionary policing involves programs and interventions that divert individuals who have committed certain offenses away from the formal criminal justice system (like court prosecution) and towards non-criminal justice alternatives

Other incidents resulted in the following outcomes:

'Victim declines / withdraws support - named suspect identified' - 10

'Police named suspect, victim supports but evidential difficulties' - 9

'Police formal action not in public interest' - 3 From.....https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/25457223.children-aged-10-found-knives-north-wales-schools/
