Llandudno....Man attacked holidaymaker who had only been in resort for just 20 minutes!

This is a really scary story, the poor man, attacked after just 20 mins in the town. People like this man should be in secure hospital.

A HOLIDAYMAKER and his partner had been in Llandudno for just 20 minutes when they were set upon by an 'intoxicated' thug, a court heard.

Scott Williams, of Bridge Street in Abergele, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence on Friday morning.

He had previously admitted offences of assault by beating, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two of assaulting an emergency worker by beating.

Elen Owen, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of April 13 this year, Charles Williams and his partner were walking in Llandudno.

They had come to the town from their home in Wigan for a holiday and had been there only 20 minutes when the defendant's offending happened.

As Charles Williams left a local pub, he heard a commotion and saw the defendant barging his way over - accusing him of having said something.

The defendant grabbed him and pushed him to the floor, landing on top of him.

A police officer who happened to be driving past saw the altercation and apprehended Scott Williams, who was "very agitated" and would not listen to instructions.

As a result, he was taken to the floor and his his head on a window frame whilst being taken down.

The action caused the officer to inadvertently activate his alarm, which called more officers to the scene.

As the defendant was being placed in a police vehicle cell, he headbutted one officer, kicked another to the face and kicked another to the chest.

Making matters worse for him, Ms Owen said, was the fact Williams was on a community order at the time - imposed in October last year for assaulting an emergency worker.

John Wyn Williams, defending, told the court: "There is a helpful pre-sentence report. I concede the custody threshold has obviously been passed.

"He has been in custody for about a month now and is now heavily medicated for his mental health issues.

"It seems alcohol is the root cause of his offending."

Mr Wyn Williams said his client had previously "worked quite well with supervision" and asked the court to consider that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, should Williams be given an alternative to immediate custody.

But Judge Nicola Jones said she was not convinced Williams was capable of rehabilitation at the present time - reminding him he'd been 'intoxicated' and on a community order for similar offending when he carried out the offences.

As such, she imposed an overall jail term of 12 months to be served immediately.

Williams must pay a £187 victim surcharge on his release.
