The proposed new Library at Venu Cymru! What a mess this looks, totally souless. One does wonder how this ailing carbuncle keeps getting funding when it has been running into debt for years.
The best thing would be to sell it or demolish it, but I hope the public boycott the Library after what the council have done.
DETAILED plans for the extensive refurbishment project of Llandudno's Venue Cymru have been revealed.
The £19.7million project is backed by the UK Government, Welsh Government Transforming Towns fund, and the Arts Council of Wales.
The new development will safeguard Venue Cymru’s long-term future, modernising its facilities, and creating a new cultural hub that supports jobs, skills, and innovation in the creative sector.
The project aims to create 59 new jobs by 2036 and deliver training and engagement opportunities for 350 people.
Now, Venue Cymru has revealed a more comprehensive, floor-by-floor plan of the work being done.
The project consists of two main parts - building a new Creative Hub by extending the existing theatre foyer, and the refurbishment of the theatre auditorium and the existing foyer spaces.
Venue Cymru said the redesign would allow the building to be "more welcoming, more active throughout the whole day, and more connected to learning, creativity and community life".
New public library
A new public library located primarily on the ground floor with space to read, study, use Wi Fi, learn and take part in creative activity, and support Welsh culture.
The library service complements the Café, Box Office and Tourist Information Services that already operate from Venue Cymru.

First floor
The first floor will provide flexible rehearsal and workspace rooms designed to support local creativity from the likes of local theatre and performance groups, schools and colleges, local artist residency, and creative learning and participation.
Construction work on the new creative hub will start in late 2027, with this section to re-open in spring 2029.

Second floor
The new building will provide flexible short-term hot- desking areas and discreet work spaces for use by local creatives such as writers, designers and digital industries.
This creative activity will feed into the "cultural offer" of Venue Cymru. A new bookable performance studio for dance, drama and spoken word will be located on the second floor.

Upgrades to the auditorium
A series of upgrades to the auditorium are being developed to improve the audience experience. These include:
- Replacement of outdated seating to improve comfort
- Improvement of sightlines, legroom and access
- Improvements to acoustic and AV performance
- Upgraded ventilation and environmental performance
Construction work on the auditorium will begin in March 2027, with this set to re-open to the public in late September 2027.
