- A big thank you to Gogarth Mostyn councillor Harry Saville, for trying and listening to the people.
COUNCILLORS have voted to proceed with plans to relocate Llandudno Library to Venue Cymru.
A petition signed by more than 500 residents is calling on Conwy County Council to reverse its

The petition, organised by Gogarth Mostyn councillor Harry Saville, was presented to the authority’s Economy and Place Overview and Scrutiny Committee yesterday (September 23).
Councillors voted against reversing the decision to relocate Llandudno Library, with nine voting in favour of the current plans, four against, and two abstaining.
Those who voted against a reversal were:
- Cllr Carol Beard
- Cllr David Carr
- Cllr Simon Croft
- Cyng/Cllr Keith Eeles
- Cllr Mandy Hawkins (Mayor of Llandudno)
- Cllr Chris Hughes
- Cllr Alan Hunter
- Cllr Gail Jones
- Cllr Michael Smith
Those who voted to reverse the decision aree as follows:
- Cllr Samantha Cotton
- Cllr Sian Grady
- Cllr Bernice McLoughlin
- Cllr Jo Nuttall
Cllrs Ros Griffiths-Williams and Cathy Augustine did not vote.
The petition urges the council to scrap controversial plans to move the town centre library from Mostyn Street to Venue Cymru as part of the UK Government-funded Venue Cymru Futures project.
The library is due to move to Venue Cymru in the spring of 2027, after the UK Government committed £20m to upgrade the theatre – although the funds are reportedly not dependent on the library moving.
Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Bangor Conwy Môn, said she was "shocked and disappointed" the plans had ben supported by the mayor, adding: "Our Welsh Conservative group however have robustly led the campaign over the consultation period and have voted against such wasteful spend of council tax payers, whilst also protecting the current library building on Mostyn Street.
"My special thanks must go to Cllr Harry Saville, Cllr Jo Nuttall and Cllr Sam Cotton for remaining constant in opposing this."
Cllr Saville said the result "doesn't mean the campaign is over" and there was "lots we can do in the meantime".
He said: "This doesn’t mean the campaign is over, it just means that the Council won’t debate the issue for another six months - and the library isn’t due to be moved for some time.
"There’s lots we can do in the meantime. I’ll aim to share updates soon."
