Conwy...Councillor calls for ‘urgent’ clarity on county's libraries

I have to say that the awful PVC makes the front of the Library look really cheap, they need to fundraise to some nice wooden windows and doors put there.

But the Library is a vital service and needs protecting, look at Colwyn Bay when the council wanted to move the lovely library into the hated Coed Pella Carbuncle, the community went mad!

If cut backs are needed how about managers within the council? There are far too many of them.

CONWY Liberal Democrats have warned that Conwy County Borough Council risks letting down its community library users.

The accusation comes with questions on the future of Llanfairfechan’s library in a Llanfairfechan Town Council meeting, which both the cabinet member and the Head of Library Services in Conwy attended.

Lib Dem Town Councillor Preben Vangberg commented stating: “Given the financial situation of Conwy County Borough Council I asked the Plaid Cymru cabinet member and the Labour county councillor for the ward, who is also a cabinet member, whether they could give the town council reassurances that they wouldn’t slash the library.

“The cabinet member simply responded that 'hard choices have to be made and the councillor didn’t answer at all.

"If they were worried about the possibility of closing the library but wanted to keep it, they would have responded that they would try their best to ensure continued service.

“But they deliberately didn’t, and by doing so made it quite clear that the library in Llanfairfechan is potentially on the chopping block.

“All of this took place in a meeting where we were discussing how we could ensure that the library could be used as a warm space.

“We need urgent clarity from the council now, people have a right to know in advance if their library is under threat of closure.”
