Conwy...Man needed plastic surgery to repair 'horrific' nose injury after thug glassed him

There really are some vile, brain-dead morons out there who would do a thing like this. And the criminal scum got just six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months., why even bother!

A man required plastic surgery for a "horrific" injury to his nose after a thug glassed him. Danny Barr hit the victim in the face with a wine glass during a night out, leaving his nose with "a flap and bleeding like a waterfall".

The victim, Charles Rayner-Jones, had thought Danny Barr was being disrespectful to a woman before Barr then attacked him. The 19-year-old defendant, who is a university student, admitted wounding, but a judge spared him jail, giving him a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Caernarfon Crown Court heard the victim had been to Conwy Comrades Club to watch the FA Cup final on May 14. Prosecutor Paulinus Barnes said Barr, who was 17 at the time, had also been in the club but left at about 10pm.

Barr and Mr Rayner-Jones ended up in nearby Lancaster Square in the town with another man. A woman approached the three men and asked for a cigarette, which she received, and passed her wine glass to Barr to hold while she rolled it.

The prosecutor said Mr Rayner-Jones believed Barr was making fun of her and being disrespectful. Mr Raynor-Jones felt the woman was getting upset by what Barr was saying but Barr then struck Mr Rayner-Jones in the face with the wine glass he was holding, the court heard. Mr Raynor-Jones began to bleed heavily.

He got a friend to ring 999 but as an operator said it would be a six hour wait for an ambulance his mum came to take him to the A&E department at Ysbyty GwyneddBangor. He was later transferred to Whiston Hospital on Merseyside for plastic surgery to repair his nose.

Mr Rayner-Jones said it had been an "horrific" injury. He said: "There was a flap of skin (on the nose) and it just bled like a waterfall."

Surgeons discussed constructing a new nose which "filled him with fear" as it would have looked "false". Fortunately it was saved, although he had a scar from the bridge of his nose to the tip and up again almost in a complete circle. It has however healed well.

The victim says it still affects his sleep and he has flashbacks when hearing someone tapping a window or glass smashing. He also had to end his hobby of kickboxing for fear his nose, still tender, could be injured. It even hurts to jump.

He doesn't like to socialise in Llandudno now as that's where Barr lives. Mr Barnes said Barr, of Cae Mawr, Llandudno, was traced and answered no comment to police questions.

Sarah Yates, defending, said it had been a "complete overreaction" by her client. He was 17 at the time but is now a more "level-headed" university student and is extremely remorseful.

The judge His Honour Timothy Petts told Barr that he had been challenged about his behavior towards a woman but responded by striking his victim in the face with a wine glass and the photographs of the injury "weren't pretty". He said: "The scars have healed well but it's a permanent reminder in a prominent place - in his face - of what you did that night."

Suspending the sentence he ordered Barr, who is on a student grant while at university in Liverpool, to pay his victim £500 and do 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also handed a five-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his victim.
