Colwyn Bay...Tragic Fire Destroys Former 5 Star Hotel Ellingham House

Ellingham Hose was a stunning 5-star hotel that was once a boarding house owned by Rydal.                                                                              The house stood empty for a few years and then was gutted by fire. The new owners restored the house and turned it into a stunning luxury hotel.                                                                                                        Oddly no one seemed to know that it has ceased trading as a hotel and it is still listed on all of the sites.                                                                        Some readers online are hinting that it was housing Migrants but there is currently no proof of this, only the fact that it was occupied but not as a hotel. I hope the building can be restored,                                                    I have some fond memories of the house, I was at Rydal in the early 70s, and my friend had this dorm and I another, we would get up to all sorts of mischief, nothing bad but it was great fun, the houses were fantastic to stay at.                                                                                                           Firefighters were this morning still at the scene of a huge overnight blaze in a Conwy seaside resort. Flames ripped through a former guesthouse in Colwyn Bay after fire broke out shortly before 9pm last night (Monday, February 19).

At the height of the incident, five appliances were in attendance, as well as an aerial ladder platform, an incident command unit and a support vehicle. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) was called to the property on Woodland Park West at 8.54pm.

North Wales Police officers were also at the scene to help with traffic management and people were asked to avoid the area. Fire chiefs said there were no reports of any casualties. Photos from the scene are in a gallery link below.

The property, at the junction with Coed Pella Road, used to be a highly-rated boutique B&B. Located in a leafy conservation area of Colwyn Bay close to the town center, it gathered 314 five-star reviews on Tripadvisor, with guests remarking on its large bedrooms and welcoming hosts.

A NWFRS said the cause and extent of the fire was still being assessed. A spokesperson said: “We remain at the scene, with one appliance and the aerial ladder platform in attendance.

This gallery of images shows the damage which you can view here.

The cause of the fire will be investigated later today.”

Local residents were distraught to see flames engulf a “beautiful” late Victorian property built in 1897. On social media, people reported their relief that everyone got out safely.                 “The occupants have lost their homes, that’s awful,” said one person. “I’m glad they are safe, I feel so bad for them.”                                                                                                         https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/experts-assess-devastating-fire-ripped-28667905

  1. Sad news indeed, I wonder what it was being used as if it was no longer a hotel? Asylum perchance????

  2. This was a lovely hotel, but nothing in the papers about how the fire started and who was living there!
